Divers should practice and train for SMB use often to ensure proficiency. We highly recommend training for deployment with an instructor.

To utilize:
- Unroll the SMB
- Attach SMB to line
- Pull two to three feet of line off of the reel
- Allow reel to 'lock'
- Put a small amount of air into the SMB
- Allow reel to rise into your hand
- Squeeze and unlock reel
- SMB will rise to the surface
- Reel in line while ascending
- Re-stow system at the surface
